PEAR User Experience Design
Overview
Fisker's in-house BLADE computer, with centralized compute and enhanced computing power, has revolutionized the possibilities by pushing the boundaries of real-time graphics and interactions. Tasked with reimagining Fisker's existing infotainment experience from both visual design and user experience perspectives, we leveraged the capabilities of the new computer to enhance the driving experience. The improved graphics enabled a layered hierarchy layout approach, allowing the surfacing of different levels of information and necessary interaction points crucial to the driver.
This advancement facilitated a more intuitive and user-friendly interface, enhancing the overall driving experience in Fisker vehicles. The BLADE computer architecture was introduced with Fisker PEAR, along with the new User Interface.

Mood Board
One of the main goals of this project was to bridge the gap between the visual language of the software experience and the hardware components by closely collaborating with the Exterior and CMF Design teams to develop a digital system that feels unified with the rest of the vehicle.
For PEAR, there was an emphasis on creating a tactile and minimalistic user interface experience, while also portraying the technology-forward feel through intuitive user ecperience and high-fidelity rendering capabilities.
CID Layout
To simplify and reinforce the hierarchy and grouping of all functionalities required on the Center Information Display (CID), main components were organized into three levels: map, content, and control panels. The base layer of the screen prioritized the map to ensure it was easy to return to and appeared persistently, reacting dynamically based on the size of the content layer above. The content area served as a non-persistent panel as it’s not critical to driving. The remaining control elements were placed on top to ensure their persistence, promoting muscle memory.
Welcome Screen
Newly introduced welcome screen replaces the existing home screen experience to surface more contextual destination recommendations and vehicle control shortcuts.
HVAC Drawer
Climate control controls were pulled away from the main nav to be persistent on the bottom of the display, sitting right above the physical button island, which also houses quick physical controls for adjusting the HVAC system.
Instrument Cluster
In collaboration with the Interior Design team, PEAR introduced a seamless hidden instrument cluster behind the fabric surface of the Instrument Panel. This allowed for the display of all necessary crucial information such as speed, state of charge, and telltales without disrupting the minimalistic interior design. The high-contrast display behind a diffuse fabric layer created a seamless hidden look when turned off.
Interior Lighting
With the minimized cluster experience, ADAS visualizations were displayed through hidden light strips located across the full width of the IP. In response to user feedback from Fisker Ocean and other EV drivers, a blue status indicator was added to indicate active assisted drive features such as FIPilot and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Exterior Lighting
The user experience team collaborated closely with the exterior design team to create a welcoming lighting sequence that enhances the vehicle's agile and youthful feel while effectively communicating the car's ability to recognize the driver in different proximity. By integrating lighting elements seamlessly into the exterior design, they aimed to evoke a sense of anticipation and excitement as the driver approaches the vehicle, providing intuitive cues for the car's readiness and responsiveness. This effort ensured that the welcome lighting not only added to the overall aesthetic appeal but also contributed to a more engaging and user-friendly experience for drivers.
01 Recognize
Communicates that the driver is detected within the range.
02 Welcome
Greets approaching driver with a welcome lighting sequence.
03 Unlock
Unlocks doors and presents door handles for driver and passengers to enter the vehicle.
